Since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, unrepentant and unforgiven unbelievers have been living upside-down lives in an upside-down world, and going away from God. They call evil good and good evil. When individuals receive Christ, God turns their lives around toward Himself and upside right. Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 29:16 Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter*s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
The preaching of Paul and Silas turned some upside-right and others believed not. Acts 17:4: And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;The Jews which believed not had it backwards and upside down. When we receive Christ we turn away from sin and idols to God. When I got saved, the Lord turned my life upside-right. 1 Thessalonians 1:9: For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
